The studio is designed to be as fast and self-contained as possible with 32 tracks of inputs that remain connected through a Behringer X-32 mixer to Pro Tools. Bass, drums, guitars, piano, and more stay wired and ready. Some nice microphones and an Avalon 737 produce top quality vocals. Student and audition recordings are a specialty here. Live recording is something we’re built for and do well, with or without an audience. The name, DNR Records,
started as a dark joke…
… referring to Tom’s sizable song catalog that has remained largely unfinished / unreleased for years. DNR was created to change all that. Put out another album? Not these days. Now, we’ll produce one song at a time and they WILL BE released.
The Covid-forced transformation of Ground Floor from a studio AND event space to only a studio created the opportunity to produce and release music like never before.
After the closure, the studio setup was improved again and again; some new gear happened… a bigger board, instruments were added. Now, with this fast and self-contained studio at the ready, the catalog backlog becomes an asset. Producing (and RE-producing), mixing, and mastering can now all be done in-house . If inspired to rework a song written in 1996 – produce it – release it! If a great live recording is found in the archives – mix it – release it! If part of the rock opera, Wings or None, is ready to share – release it! When a great artists records live at Ground Floor – release it!
DNR is here to “resuscitate” the neglected song catalog and to create new work too (already funny, yes?). We’ll be releasing music quickly and constantly under the label, “Do Not Release” (even funnier, yes?).
